As 911 Calls Are Placed On Hold, Is Now The Time For A Gun??
Law Enforcement Resources Are Stretched To The Breaking Point!
Date: February 11, 2022
"Due to critical incidents happening today and Police staffing shortage, officers are responding to priority 1 and 2 calls only right now and response times may be delayed for certain calls."
Kinda strange right? What you just heard is what Portland Police were saying in December 2021. It kinda sounded like the Portland Police were saying you’re on your own.
In fact, that’s exactly what they were saying. And saying it in the year of all years, 2021, which among other dubious distinctions saw the highest murder rate in Portland’s history.
This phenomenon isn’t limited to Oregon. In Los Angeles, amidst a surge of robberies, police issued a community alert notification, advising residents to not resist when being robbed and “be a good witness.” In Richmond, the mayor rejected a plan for a focused deterrence program run by the police to stop the cycle of gun violence, instead opting to fund human services directed at educating middle schoolers. In Burlington, Vermont, the active police force was slashed from 95 officers to 64.
Across the country, Defund the Police movements have gutted police forces and cratered the morale of the remaining officers. Meanwhile, the nationwide homicide rate is soaring.
Now it seems, the same politicians whose knee-jerk reactions to appease activists created the law enforcement staffing shortages, to begin with, are rushing to restore funding to the police. In Portland and Burlington alike, money is being pumped back into the police force. But in many ways, the damage is done, and at most, it will take years before the police are functioning the way it was just a couple of years ago.
I don’t know about you, but I’m not holding my breath. Not while being placed on hold by the police. Not while waiting to see the next boneheaded policy that gets made into law, only to be reversed the next year. Not while violent criminals are practically being given the key to the city while law-abiding citizens are left to fend for themselves.
And that’s the crux of the matter. Are you gonna just sit there and be defenseless or do something about it? Anti-gun activists will tell you the police will protect you. But when the politicians, responding to the voice of a few, reduce our police forces to a shell of their former selves, this while the crime rate is skyrocketing, I take pause. I take stock.
People who wish to do you harm could care less about gun laws. They carry them. They use them and don’t think twice about it. Now it seems you can’t get the police on the phone. And if you can, they are overworked and understaffed.
What else is there to do but to arm yourself, train, be prepared to defend yourself, and have a pleasant day?
